Mercedes Munez is Santiago Munez's grandmother.

She is very supportive of his dream unlike Santiago's father. She is very selfless by selling off all her jewellery to buy him a ticket to England, so he can play for Newcastle United F.C. She secretly had a deep hatred for Santi all along and just wanted him out of the house.

She lives in Santi's second house. However, one day, Santi trips on the TV remote spilling orange juice over her front. She immediately feels a deep hatred for her beloved grandson and starts beating him to death. Santiago escapes up the stairs with Gianluigi Buffon (Gigi). When Mercedes reaches the top of the stairs, Gigi kicks a ball at her to get rid of her and she falls down the stairs to her death.

She died aged 77.
